About Me
I'm much more than a UX/UI fan/geek.
Family is very important to me. I'm a mom to a fantastic 25-year-old son, and watching him launch into his own life and find his place in the world has been one of my greatest joys. I also enjoy spending Sundays with my parents, both nearing 80 years young. I love cooking with my Mom, and since buying my new house, having Dad around to show me how to “fix stuff” has been really helpful.
I ADORE live music and travel to see bands and friends whenever I can. Ask me what concert I'm seeing next; there's always a show on my calendar! I take weekly piano and bass lessons, and you can find me at band rehearsals a couple of nights a week. Music is my happy place.
I'm a certified scuba diver. My favorite dive location is Cozumel, although Cabo is on my must-dive list. My dream is to scuba dive with whale sharks. I learned to dive from my late Aunt and Uncle, who were both dive instructors and National Geographic underwater photographers. I'm on Team Nikon and even helped with their photography company for several years.
For 20 years, I had a night job as a childbirth and postpartum doula. While those days are now over, I was honored to assist with 130+ births and help 300+ Baltimore families bring their babies home. All of those births were human, with the exception of one equine birth and several hundred baby sea turtles! Being on call while working a full-time job was a difficult balance, but I still love helping new moms on occasion. I always did my best to make even having a baby a more pleasant experience!
Organizing team activities has always been one of my favorite hobbies! I once convinced my coworkers to throw my boss an in-office "Alaskan Cruise Party" after she had to cancel her trip at the last minute for a family emergency. There may or may not be pictures of me dressed as an orca whale. I may also have talked these same coworkers into dressing up as the complete cast of The Wizard of Oz for Halloween. Work should be fun, even if it's virtual.
Most of all, I love meeting new people and learning how I can help make their lives better. Having spent much of my career in civic tech, doing important work that makes the world a better place really is what makes me happiest.
When they cancel your flight from Denver to Baltimore, you make lemonade and go see whoever is playing at Red Rocks that night!
